# We Missed the Last Train
The doors were already closing,
The platform clock said one-oh-two.
You looked at me and started laughing,
Like there was nothing else to do.
The station lights went dark behind us,
The taxis disappeared in rain.
You pulled your sleeves around your fingers,
And said, “We might as well complain.”
But then you bought two cups of coffee
From a machine beside the square.
It tasted burnt, you called it perfect,
And somehow I believed you there.
No map, no plan,
No place we had to be.
Just your shadow
Walking next to me.
We missed the last train, but I do not mind,
I found a better reason to lose track of time.
The streets are empty, the morning is new,
And every road feels right when I am walking with you.
We missed the last train
And found the start of something true.
We passed the shops with shutters lowered,
Our faces floating in the glass.
You told me things you never mention
When conversations move too fast.
You said you always leave too early
Before somebody asks you why.
I said I always stay too long
For things already saying goodbye.
Then underneath a closed station sign,
You tried to dance without a song.
You stepped upon my shoe and whispered,
“I knew that this would all go wrong.”
But neither one of us stopped dancing.
And wrong had never felt so right.
No map, no plan,
The city disappeared.
And every word
Pulled you a little near.
We missed the last train, but I do not mind,
I found a better reason to lose track of time.
The streets are empty, the morning is new,
And every road feels right when I am walking with you.
We missed the last train
And found the start of something true.
Maybe tomorrow this will frighten me.
Maybe tomorrow you will change your mind.
Maybe the daylight makes it ordinary.
Then let us stay out here
And leave tomorrow far behind.
Because the sky is turning silver,
And I still do not want to go.
We started out as two lost strangers,
But now there is one thing I know.
We missed the last train, but I do not mind,
I found a better reason to lose track of time.
The streets are empty, the morning is new,
And every road feels right when I am walking with you.
We missed the last train
And found the start of something true.
We missed the last train!
And I do not mind.
We missed the last train!
We left the night behind.
The streets are waking,
The sky is turning blue,
And every road feels right
When I am walking with you.
We missed the last train
And found the start,
We missed the last train
And found the start,
We missed the last train
And found the start
Of something true.
Should we take this one?
Not yet.
